LINE OF PRODUCTS  

Phrase

  • a group/category of products that are similar to each other.
Example Sentence: Our company will introduce a new line of products in the autumn.
 

ON CREDIT ɒn krɛdɪt

Phrase

  • without paying cash.
Example Sentence: We usually buy most of our furniture on credit.
 

MOVE TO (DO SOMETHING)  

Phrase

  • to propose to do something (usually at a meeting)
Example Sentence: I moved to have another meeting next week when we can discuss the problem.
 

MEAN BUSINESS min bɪznɪs

Phrase

  • to be serious.
Example Sentence: Our boss means business when he tells everyone to work harder.
 

MAKE MONEY HAND OVER FIST  

Phrase

  • to make a lot of money.
Example Sentence: The small ice cream shop has been making money hand over fist since it first opened last year.
 

MAKE AN OFFER  

Phrase

  • to make a financial proposal for a product or service.
Example Sentence: We want to buy the house and we plan to make an offer on Saturday.
 

MAKE A MOTION  

Phrase

  • to make a suggestion or proposal at a meeting.
Example Sentence: The manager made a motion to finish the meeting early and continue the next day.
 

MAKE A GO OF (SOMETHING)  

Phrase

  • to produce good results, to succeed at something.
Example Sentence: Although the man works very hard in his small business he cannot make a go of it.
 

MAKE A COLD CALL  

Phrase

  • to visit or telephone a potential but unknown customer.
Example Sentence: When he first started to work at his company the salesman was asked to make a cold call.
 

LIQUID ASSETS lɪkwɪd æsɛts

Phrase

  • property or belongings that can easily be converted to cash.
Example Sentence: The company had to sell some of its liquid assets in order to raise cash.
 

LAY (SOMETHING) ON THE TABLE  

Phrase

  • to present a matter for discussion.
Example Sentence: I went to the meeting and laid my concerns about the new product on the table.
 

LEAD TIME /lēd tīm/

  • the time from when an order is sent from a customer to a supplier until the ordered products arrive at the customer
Example Sentences:Our lead time is between 7 and 10 days depending on the customer’s location.
Is there anything you can do to shorten your lead time? We need the delivery within a week.
 

LAND AN ACCOUNT  

Phrase

  • to acquire an account.
Example Sentence: The salesman landed a large account on his first day of work.
 

JACK UP THE PRICE OF (SOMETHING)  

Phrase

  • to make a price higher.
Example Sentence: The steel company decided to jack up the price of steel at the beginning of the year.
 

IN THE WORKS  

Phrase

  • to be in preparation, to be in the process of being done.
Example Sentence: The camera company has a new camera in the works but nobody knows about it.
