Where do I start?

  • FORMAL LEARNING

If you are serious about improving your business English, then you should select a formal My Learning Path.

If you know your business English level, we’ll be able to direct you to suitable content to learn. You can work your way through a series of Business English Courses, create your own Learning Path or learn topics relevant to your job (Job-Specific Learning Maps).

If you don’t know your business English level, take our Business English Level Test. At the end of the test you’ll be given a benchmark level (1-6) and a report detailing what you can do in terms of business English at that level.

Once you know your level, you can choose to do the following:

  1. Take an online Business English Course; or
  2. Create your own Learning Path by selecting the topics at your level you’d like to focus on.

If you’d like to focus only on the topics most relevant to your work, go to the Job-Specific Learning Maps. Select your job title and follow the links to the relevant topics for that job type.

  • INFORMAL LEARNING

All you need to do is study for a few minutes each day and you’ll see improvements in your English. Why not start your informal learning here?

You can view or download 120+ back issues from The Language Key magazine. The Language Key was a popular printed magazine published from 1994-2005 and focuses on business English training.

In the Learning Centre you’ll find 54 past volumes of Workplace English Training E-Magazine which forms the core of all available learning resources within the site. Each issue includes a variety of formal and informal learning to suit all learning needs.

The Language Past Issues Archive (go to)

You can access 48 past issues of The Language Key, a printed magazine focusing on business English. All issues are in PDF format and are linked to audio content.

Model Business Documents (go to)

1200 model business documents can be viewed online (subscribers can download 500 of these documents in Word format for free). You can search the model documents by category or type.

  • GETTING HELP

If you have a technical problem, visit the Technical Support page. First check the Knowledge Base. If you can’t find an answer to your query there, submit a ticket and we’ll give you and answer within 24 hours.

The podcast audio lesson on this site are free. Feel free to listen to them on our website, download the files in the normal way from the Subscriber's area of the website, or subscribe to the free podcast feed.

To download transcripts of the podcast lessons, podcast lesson study notes and interactive practice exercises you need to be a paid subscriber.

You can leave comments on the podcasts. All feedback is moderated and will take up to 24 hours to appear on the site.

  • Business/General English Tips

Every few days we will release a new blog. This may refer to content in the current issue of Workplace English Training E-Magazine, or may include supplementary English tips, and vocabulary topics.

You can subscribe to the blog news feed for free. This will alert you whenever we release a new blog.

You can also leave comments on the blogs. All feedback is moderated and will take up to 24 hours to appear on the site.

  • Content Calander

The Content Calander will show you when new content in the form of a blog or podcast has been released. Click on the days circled in red to view the newly released content.

    Email Alerts

You can sign up to Email Alerts. Just enter your email address in the box and click 'Subscribe'. When new podcasts or tips are published you will be informed by our email newsletter. You can unsubscribe to Email Alerts at any time.

The staff of subscribing companies can also sign up to Email Alerts.

You need to be a paid subscriber to receive Email Alerts.

  • Forum

You can post questions on a variety of topics connected to business English at the forum. Feel free to answer each others posts.

We will endeavor to answer all posts connected with business English. Any post not connected with the sub-forum it is posted in will be removed from the board.

In addition, if you have any technical queries about the site, please post them here under the relevant sub-forum.

All posts are moderated and will take up to 24 hours to appear on the forum.

  • Site Feedback

We welcome your feedback on the site. This is a very large site with thousands of pages of content. There may be some broken links or some articles may not be displaying correctly. BizPlanIt.Com  Contains the web's largest collection of free business plan tips, information, and advice that you can use to create a winning business plan on your own. 

Business Vocabulary - Core vocabulary reference sheets providing between 150 and 240 key words and phrases for each industry.

International House Barcelona  Resources and business worksheets for teachers. Worksheets focus on grammar usage in business applications.  Other worksheets are questions only, without any accompanying readings for general  applications.  

Developing Awareness -  A lesson plan by Asako Kajiura for developing intercultural communication, taken from the Internet TESL journal.  Activity is designed to increase student's ability to interact with and understand aspects of other cultures such as body language, discourse patterns, gender roles.  Appropriate for intermediate and advanced level students.   

Online English Grammar - Superb grammar resources, including writing and punctuation tips. 

The LACS Center   Business English teaching resources  - An online source for business-related English teaching materials. Teaching materials include speaking fluency skills, negotiation skills, and presentation skills.  Their online activities include 4 Morse Veglar Stories with advanced level cloze exercises (you need Explorer 4.0 or Navigator 4.0 to download these) and 2 multiple choice tests.  

Learning Post  A collection of the Bangkok Post's weekly ESL business columns.   Each column consists of background and commentary followed by an actual story from the Bangkok Post, accompanied by explanations of key vocabulary terms.

Learning Resources   The Learning Resources site offers web-delivered instruction using CNN and CBS 5 - KPIX (CBS Broadcasting) news stories. Western/Pacific LINCS (part of the National Institute for Literacy's LINCS Project) and Literacyworks, uses these stories to develop an online literacy site that benefits all learners and instructors. This material is intended for adult literacy and educational purposes. Though the intended audience is adults, instructors and learners (of all ages) are encouraged to use this material to promote better literacy.
