I'm sure you know that we cannot use "a" or "an" with these uncountable nouns. But you probably didn't remember (or perhaps you never learned) that instead of these singular determiners, we usually use " some" for such uncountable nouns as " information ", " news" and " water"

I find that Hong Kong people are always so surprised ( and reluctant) to think we can say " some news" when they mean only one piece of news, but this in fact is the normal way we refer to uncountable nouns THE FIRST TIME (when they are INDEFINITE). After first-mention, then we use "the" to refer to the same noun because at that point it is DEFINITE. So, for example, we say:
" I bought AN apple . THE apple was delicious."
But for uncountable nouns, we say:
" I have SOME news. THE news is very surprising."
So, don't be afraid to use "some" with your uncountable nouns when you are inclined to use "a" or " an " ( which is never correct), even though the meaning is singular. Here "some" is simply the marker for an indefinite uncountable noun, not an indication of plurality.
