The price of rice has increased dramatically in the past few months and many Asian governments are working hard to prevent their poorest people from going hungry. Big rice producing countries such as Thailand and Vietnam are limiting their exports, making it more difficult for rice importing countries to buy supplie

One such rice importing country is the Philippines, a developing country which once grew enough rice to feed its population. As urban development has reduced the amount of land available for agriculture, many Filipinos are worried about the future. Unfortunately, the country can do little about the rice shortage which is a result of global changes in rice production and distribution.
